Robert Haley, Workshop Director. Robert Haley is the owner of Classic Winds and Classicsax.com, and has offered private instruction to students of all levels since 1979. Mr. Haley holds a Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music in Woodwind Performance degrees from the University of Georgia and has been instructor of saxophone at Georgia State University in Atlanta. Solo (recital and concerto) and chamber music performances have taken him all over the country, including a performance by special invitation of the legendary saxophonist Sigurd Rascher, at Rascher's last North American workshop at Yale University.
Ravan Durr, Chamber Music and Jazz
Ravan was born and raised in Marietta Georgia. He graduated from Marietta High School in 1976 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Music Education degree from Jacksonville State University and the Master of Music degree from the University of Georgia. Mr. Durr has extensive performance experience in both jazz and chamber music and has performed throughout the region on baritone and alto saxophone. He is retired from the Cobb County School System after 24 years of service as a band director for middle and high school. He has produced and performed on four CD projects under his own name. The most recent recording features Mr. Durr performing on baritone, tenor, alto and soprano saxophone. This recording titled The Four Winds is a collection of combo pieces composed and arranged by Mr. Durr. Ravan and his wife Sheila are members of Towne View Baptist Church. They have four grown children and reside in Marietta Georgia.
Emma Haley, Guest Artist
Emma Haley has lived with the sound of the saxophone her entire life. She pursued her passion for the saxophone and for the teaching of music at Florida State University, graduating with a degree in music education. She is well-versed in all performance aspects of the saxophone and specializes on the alto and soprano saxophones. She is now a middle school band director in Stuart, Florida.
Thomas Giles, Guest Artist
Thomas A. Giles is a concert saxophonist and chamber musician living in New York City. He has been a featured performer across the United States and in Europe as a soloist and in the highly-acclaimed Mana Quartet. He holds a Doctorate of Music degree from the Florida State University, a Master of Music from Illinois State University, and a Bachelor of Music from the University of Southern Mississippi. Giles’ research interests encompass the life and works of the late saxophone virtuoso John-Edward Kelly; he specializes in the performance and proliferation of the dedicatee's repertoire. His primary teachers have been Lawrence Gwozdz, Patrick Meighan, and Carina Raschèr, founding soprano saxophonist of the Raschèr Saxophone Quartet. For more information, see www.thomasgilessax.com
