Metro Saxophone Symposium 2021
Time & Location
About the Event
This is a fun and intensive week of saxophone study that deals with all aspects of saxophone performance.
Students will perform in a large saxophone ensemble comprised of soprano through bass saxophones and work in smaller groups like duets, trios, and quartets. There is exploration of the history and usage of the saxophone, sessions on extended register and extended techniques, playing fundamentals, practice strategies, instrument selection and maintenance.
If you are an enthusiastic student of the saxophone and really love playing, then this is the event for you. This is not a "band camp" like you may have experienced before. The workshop is tailored to meet the individual needs of our participants of all levels. Many of our participants become the best players in the school bands and are selected for honor bands and All-State bands. Every year we have many returning "alumni" of the workshop, sometimes even after they graduate from high school. You are never too old, or too young, to improve your musicianship and playing. If you have at least one year of playing experience with a teacher recommendation, come and join us this summer!
Instructors for the week are Robert Haley and Martin Wilkes. Their many decades of direct experience, both teaching and performing, will benefit every attendee and provide multiple insights into all facets of the instrument.
You are invited to a free Instructors Recital on Thursday evening, June 17th.
Student Performances are scheduled for 2:00 on Friday afternoon.
The cost of the workshop is $250 and can be paid in two installments.
Enrollment is limited to 40 participants.
