Selmer MKVI Tenor COA

Clean, Oil and Adjust on a well-worn saxophone

A new customer contacted me about working on his gigging tenor. This Selmer Mark VI five-digit tenor had been overhauled about 6 years ago, but had been played hard in the clubs of New Orleans! And, it showed.

After a consultation, we decided to perform the COA service. The clean, oil and adjust service involves disassembling the instrument, thoroughly cleaning the body, neck and keys, polishing the rods and screws, replacing worn or missing regulating materials (corks, felts, etc.), reassembling and applying new, clean oil and grease, then checking the setup and pad seating. Before the COA began, the key mechanism was improved with some detailed key fitting. Since the instrument is essentially bare brass now, a coat of carnuba wax was applied to protect the metal. All of the pads were in remarkably good condition. So, with proper cleaning, they will continue of be serviceable for a good while longer. Don't overlook the Michael Brecker model Guardala mouthpiece!
